The Department of Business Ethics and Legal Studies (BELS) is the College’s interdisciplinary hub for research, teach and community engagement. There are no easy answers but this brief article will consider the three main schools of general ethics and the particular themes as ethics is commonly debated on a business ethics basis. They may have such an obligation as human beings, but it is not part of business ethics.
For his outreach efforts, Kent has developed a series of engaging principles-based ethics presentations which he delivers to diverse audiences. It is also my sense that the multiplicity of consequences makes evaluating ethics complex: if some of the consequences are good, and others are bad, assessing the rightness of the action necessitates a great amount of consideration. The public doesn’t differentiate between business practices that clearly are unethical and those that are simply unpopular. They are generally meant to identify the company’s expectations of workers and to offer guidance on handling some of the more common ethical problems that might arise in the course of doing business.
